With all of the drama coming out of Market Basket over the past couple of months, it got me wondering: I know that Market Basket's reputation is that their prices are lower than other grocery stores across New England, but to be honest, I had never really put it to the test.

Personally, I have been basing the presumption that Market Basket was the cheapest grocery store on anecdotal evidence when I shop at the New Bedford or Fall River locations, and what seems to be the general opinion of my circle of friends and family.

SouthCoast Grocery Stores Put to the Test

We decided to do some comparison shopping this morning. We sent out producer Matthew to Market Basket in New Bedford, Stop & Shop in Fairhaven, and Shaw's in Dartmouth. We made a list of 10 items, trying to pick items that would be easily found with the same size in all three stores. We had no idea which items, if any, may have been on sale for the week.

Our Grocery List

  1. Dozen eggs
  2. Bag of Lay's potato chips
  3. Pound of hamburger
  4. Box of store brand pasta
  5. An avocado
  6. Pound of American cheese
  7. Box of Cheerios
  8. Gallon of 1% store brand milk
  9. Can of SpaghettiO's with meatballs
  10. 24-pack of Sprite

We shopped for each of these items at the three stores to get a quick snapshot of which store had the best deals. Here is what we found.

Best Market Basket Customer Services Desk Displays of 2023

Another season of customer service desk decorating is underway at Market Basket locations across New England. Thanks to the People of Market Basket Facebook page, we don't have to travel to every state to see what employees came up with this year.
