Three Southcoast communities will benefit from a round of grants awarded by the Baker-Polito administration.

New Bedford is receiving $168,750 for a beach nourishment restoration project along sections of West Beach that are vulnerable to erosion.

Wareham has received $150,000 to improve the reliability of critical pump stations during storm events. Mattapoisett has been granted over $47,625 to assess beach stability under a range of sea level rise and hurricane conditions at Fresh Pond Cove. Those results could determine options for relocating a crucial water main.

In total, $1.8 million in grants were awarded to 19 coastal communities to be used to prepare for and reduce impacts from coastal storms and climate change.
