SouthCoast Cats Have Options During Canned Food Shortage

Having been a parent to several cats over the years, I can tell you that felines can be pretty finicky about the food they are served. Once a kitty is used to a certain brand or certain flavors of a certain brand, change does not always come easy or without protest.

There continues to be a shortage of canned pet food in parts of the country due in part to the supply chain crisis and worker shortages that continue to plague manufacturing plants and trucking companies. Some products are getting out while others are not. One issue that is affecting the SouthCoast region is a shortage of canned cat food. Certain brands, particularly Fancy Feast, have been difficult to come by.

The supermarkets here on the SouthCoast appear to be struggling to find adequate supplies of Fancy Feast canned cat food to meet the demand. Other brands are getting out but because of the Fancy Feast shortage, the others don't last long on the store shelves.

Some pet owners say they seem to have better luck at stores not necessarily known for selling a lot of cat food such as Cumberland Farms. It might be worth checking out some of the out-of-the-way places, too. That worked during the toilet paper shortage in 2020.

There is no telling how long it will be before things get back to normal and canned cat food is plentiful again. For all we know it could be a while, so perhaps it's time to formulate a backup plan.
