Let's start by simply looking up. I'm serious. I can't tell you how many people are on their phone or walking in large groups simply unaware of anyone else along the path. Stay in your lane, literally.
Friends of the Mattapoisett Rail Trail even share reminders on its website so everyone can have an enjoyable experience on the local bike paths.
Be Aware of Others
Aside from wearing a helmet and keeping your dog on a leash, there are a few other "rules of the road" to abide by.
'Keep right, pass left' is a common phrase. Watch for pets and kids who may suddenly change direction or can't always react in time.
Follow the signs including stopping at all intersections.

Be Courteous of Others
When passing, speak up to others so they know you're approaching. A simple "on your left" can go a long way.
Respect private property along your local bike path and please please please pick up after your dog.
Be Responsible
Do not litter. Do not bring unauthorized vehicles.
If you're on the road, be aware of bikes and other small vehicles making their way. Drivers must allow four feet when passing the following:
- People walking and biking
- Roadside workers
- People using wheelchairs
- Motorized bicycles, scooters, skateboards, roller skates, and other micro-mobility devices
- Horse riders and horse-drawn carriages
- Farm equipment
