It all started 4 years ago as a way to raise some needed cash, and today, it has turned into a delicious event of friendly competition between area restaurants and such. On Sunday, February 2, between noon and 3 pm at Mercy Meals and More, 634 Purchase St., at least 6 local restaurants and GNB Vocational Technical High School will compete for the coveted "Golden Ladle" award during the soup sampler gala! A suggested donation of $7.50 entitles you to try 2 different soups and then choose a bowl of homemade soup. In years past, the event has attracted area diners and folks who brought soup home for the Super Bowl game, later in the evening. The participating soup donors, who folks will vote for favorite, include: Shawmut Diner, GNB Vocational Technical High School, Destination Soups, Rose Alley House, Cork Wine and Tappas and Pub 6. All proceeds help Mercy Meals and More continue to provide free daily breakfasts for many area residents.
