All six potential candidates for the Ward 3 special election have made it through the next step of the process.

New Bedford Election Commissioner Maria Tomasia tells WBSM News that all six made it through the certification process of validating the 50 signatures needed to officially become a candidate to fill the vacant Ward 3 seat on the City Council.

That means Republican State Committeewoman and former School Committee member Jill Marie Ussach, former Ward 3 Councilor Kathy Dehner, former Congressman Keating staffer Hugh Dunn, former Ward 6 Councilor Mark Zajac, Guy Larock and Bethany Fauteux are all going to face off in a preliminary election on March 28, before the final election on April 25.

Tomasia's office called all six candidates to inform them that they have been certified, but only Larock has informed them he intends to remain in the race. The other candidates have until February 22 to inform the election office they wish to continue.
