NEW BEDFORD — A police spokeswoman confirmed to WBSM News that New Bedford Police are investigating a shooting Thursday night in the Beetle Street area.

The incident was reported at about 7:50 p.m.

Police say a male victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

The initial scanner report suggested at least two parties shooting at one another in the area of Beetle Court and Belleville Avenue.

The report also came across the scanner that police were searching for another suspect, described as a black male a black t-shirt, and then possibly no shirt, as well as jeans, carrying a silver firearm.

Scanner reports also suggest police recovered a firearm in the vicinity of where the shooting took place.

At the scene, police sectioned off Beetle Court with cruisers placed on Belleville and North Front Street. Orange cones indicating where shell casings were discovered were placed up and down the south side of Beetle Court.
