Serious Crash Shuts Down Access to New Bedford-Fairhaven Bridge

NEW BEDFORD — A serious car crash on the New Bedford – Fairhaven Bridge has snarled traffic and shut down all access to Pope’s Island.

New Bedford Police have confirmed the crash resulted in injuries, however, cannot provide further details at this time.

“There was an accident on the Bridge, we currently have the Traffic Division and Patrol on scene.  There were injuries, I do not know the extent of those injuries currently.  I do not have details of the accident currently, and can provide you with them as they develop,” NBPD Public Information Officer, Lt. Nathaniel Rodriguez, said in a response to a request for information by WBSM News.

WBSM News also spotted a Fairhaven Police cruiser blocking off access to Pope’s Island from the Fairhaven side of the harbor.

Tips and photos of the crash sent into the newsroom indicate the crash appeared to have involved a silver or gray Toyota pickup truck.
