Second Suspect Arrested in New Bedford Deadly Botched Cab Robbery
NEW BEDFORD — The second assailant who fled a Yellow Cab in the area of 20 Bentley Street shortly after 1 a.m. Friday has been identified as 23-year-old Kyle Dawson of New Bedford.
Mr. Dawson was apprehended on Frederick Street in New Bedford at approximately 12:40 p.m. today and is currently in police custody.
It is alleged that Mr. Dawson, along with 24-year-old Christopher Dunton, attempted to violently rob a Yellow Cab taxi driver shortly after 1 a.m.
The cab driver, who has a valid License to Carry, was able to escape the cab during the attempted robbery and fired several rounds, striking Mr. Dunton. Mr. Dunton was pronounced dead a short time later at St. Luke’s Hospital.
This is an ongoing investigation by members of the New Bedford Police Department and the State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office.
