All the votes are counted and it is official -- Scotland is staying in the United Kingdom. More than 84-percent of Scotland's registered voters went to the polls Thursday, and 55-percent of them voted to remain a part of the U.K. The final margin is wider than public opinion polls indicated. Surveys taken just days before the vote showed 48-percent of Scots favoring independence and 52-percent opposed.

Now that the votes are counted and the tally is official, Scots will be looking for Prime Minister David Cameron to keep his promise to give the country more decision-making power. Cameron said early this morning that the question of Scottish independence has now been settled "for a generation." Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond conceded defeat as he called on supporters of independence to accept the results.
