A local couple says they have filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office after they say they were scammed by a Dartmouth travel agency.

Kristine Mello and Jeffrey Ferreira were planning a destination wedding in Mexico and invited some friends and family to come along.

Arrangements for the trip were being made through Terry's Travel located at 154 Faunce Corner Rd., which collected roughly $68,000, from both the couple and their guests.

However, Mello told WBSM's Phil Paleologos they found out that payments were never made to the airline to reserve their seats.

"I guess what they do is they book it and if the travel agent doesn't pay within 24 hours it's cancelled," says Mello "so she booked it they sent her the confirmation and then she e-mailed it to us so that we would everything was fine and not question her at all. Then she never paid for it so they automatically cancelled it."

Ferriera said they got the same story when they looked into their hotel accomodations.

"Monday night we started looking into it," says ferriera "we called the resort they said...22 rooms were booked but nothing was paid for."

Dartmouth Police are investigating.

A spokeswoman with the attorney general's office confirms they have received the complaint and says it is the third complaint they have received regarding this business since 2014.

WBSM reached out to the travel agency but received a voicemail saying the business was closed. We left a message but our call has yet to be returned.

A spokesman for Southcoast Health says that the owner of the company, identified as Natercia Sousa, was admitted to St. Luke's Hospital where she was treated and released.
