All the major political media is reporting former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick is considering seeking the Democratic Party nomination for president.

I hope Governor Patrick jumps into the race for president. I want as many hometown candidates in the race as physically possible. It would be great if the November ballot featured an all-Massachusetts showdown:

Former Gov. Patrick as the Democrat.

Gov. Charlie Baker as the Independent.

Former Gov. Bill Weld as the Republican, who is also running as a Libertarian, but wants everyone to remember he endorsed Hillary and Obama too.

Former Massachusetts Governor and current Senator from Utah Mitt Romney issues press releases attacking all of his fellow Massachusetts governors.

Former Gov. Mike Dukakis throws his name into the mix for vice president and Baker gives it "serious consideration" through a spokesperson.

Former Massachusetts Senator and Secretary of State John Kerry reminds everyone he is available but remembers how much better his life is out of office.

But don't worry, my dream election will not come true in 2020.

Meanwhile, Sen. Elizabeth Warren is issuing policy papers and taking the nomination process seriously, and President Donald J. Trump will be the Republican nominee.

The idea of Gov. Patrick jumping in at this late moment is a serious blow to former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Elizabeth Warren. Patrick is close to President Obama. If the former president was supporting his former running mate, Patrick wouldn't be floating this trial balloon. It also comes on the heels of Obama's Attorney General, Eric Holder, making a similar public consideration of candidacy for the Oval Office.

The candidacy of Patrick highlights the weakness of Sen. Warren in Massachusetts, also known as her base. According to the New York Times: "Massachusetts Democrats close to Mr. Patrick have started to reach out to prominent party leaders in early nominating states to alert them that he may run, according to one Democrat who has received an inquiry."

The Massachusetts presidential primary is getting even more interesting for Democrats, especially in places like New Bedford, Fall River, Taunton, and Cape Cod.
