
SouthCoast Craftsman’s Nautical Creations Available at Roadside Stand
Eggs, fresh produce and flowers; we see it all sold on the side of SouthCoast roads. The quaint roadside stands add a bit of charm to their communities.
Now, you can find handmade art at one particular stand in Rochester.

A woodworker for over 30 years, Rod Delano certainly knows his way around the materials.
"I did everything from finished carpentry to restoration carpentry, cabinet making, so I had my own shop that was sitting idle," he said.
How Are the Nautical Wood Creations Made?
"I started to create these with pieces of driftwood, a fish and a piece of wire," Delano said.
His nautical creations were a hit among friends and family.
"They would say 'people would buy those,'" he said.

"My first thought was why don't I build a roadside stand and see if they actually do sell and I can do a little market research," Delano said. "I thought I could make a little shack that looks like a lobster shack and then one day it hit me, why don't I make a boat?"

What Sea Creature Can I Purchase?
He has whales, fish and sharks, but can certainly see a future expanding into mermaids and other sea creatures.
"It's been a calling in my life," Delano said about working and creating with wood. "I love to create things."
Where Is the Roadside Stand Located?
The boat-shaped roadside stand is located on Walnut Plain Road in Rochester, near the intersection of Alley Rd.
