A Fall River man who tried to rob a convenience store using a dirty syringe has been sentenced in Superior Court.

Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn's office says 28-year-old Jeffrey Munroe pleaded guilty tuesday in Fall River Superior Court to one count of armed assault with intent to rob. Judge Gregg Pasquale sentenced Munroe to five to seven years in state prison.

The charge stems from an attempted robbery on November 21 of last year, when a man, later identified as Munroe, entered Sunny's Convenience Store, held a hypodermic needle to the store clerk and demanded money. The clerk refused to comply and chased Munroe out of the store with a baseball bat.

Munroe was soon arrested in a nearby alleyway, where a clown mask and a needle were also found.
