Reward Offered for Information in Sid Wainer Fire

The State Fire Marshal's Office is asking the public for information about the March 24 fire at Sid Wainer & Son Food Distribution Company on Purchase Street.

The fire started just after midnight on a loading dock and damaged several tractor-trailers.

The New Bedford Fire Department and the State Fire Marshal's Office are urging anyone who may have seen something or someone that night or has information about how the fire started to call the Confidential Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229.

Your information could result in a reward of up to $5,000 if it helps investigators determine the cause of the fire.

New Bedford Fire Chief Paul Coderre says investigators are unsure of the cause, and whether the fire was arson.

He's hoping the public will use the "800" number to communicate with fire officials confidentially about fires and to advertise the rewards program.
