One Man Injured, One in Custody in New Bedford Shooting [VIDEO]
NEW BEDFORD - One person is injured and one is in custody after a shooting in New Bedford's West End.
New Bedford Police say the shooting took place around 10:30 a.m. At Kempton and Cook Streets. A 17-year-old New Bedford male was shot once in the right foot. He was transported to St. Luke's Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The male suspect fled the scene but was soon apprehended by police at East Clinton and Chancery Streets. He was identified as 21-year-old Tevin Cardoza-Dias of New Bedford. Police found a small amount of cocaine in his possession at the time of his arrest.
A 9mm Glock handgun and several rounds of ammunition were recovered at Park and Arnold Streets.
Cardoza-Dias is being charged with carrying a loaded firearm, carrying a loaded large capacity firearm on a public way, unlawful possession of a large capacity feeding device, discharge of a firearm within 500 feet of a building, unlawful carrying of a firearm without a license (subsequent offense), assault and battery by discharge of a firearm, and possession with intent to distribute Class B (cocaine).
Cardoza-Dias was convicted of carrying a firearm without a license in 2012.
