Report of ‘Pipe Bomb’ in Fall River Spurns FBI Response
FALL RIVER - Initial reports of a pipe bomb in a vehicle in Fall River on Friday turned out to be false.
The Fall River Police Department says an officer was investigating a vehicle that had been parked in a no-parking zone on Bank Street at around 7:30 a.m. on Friday. While taking a closer look at the 1999 Chevrolet Tracker, Officer Rory McCoomb saw a phone charger in the car with wires running to the back seat connected to an object that was covered with aluminum foil. Officer McCoomb called for additional resources while the area was evacuated.
Bomb technicians from Massachusetts State Police and FBI officials responded to the scene and soon determined that the aluminum foil contained only consumer-grade fireworks.
The owner of the vehicle, Lawrence Crump, 40, of Boston, will be summoned to court on a charge of unlawful possession of fireworks.
