A Rehobeth woman will spend the rest of her life in prison for the brutal murder of her two year old son.

Forty-four year old Kimberly Peno was found guilty on Thursday of first degree murder, following a six-day trial in Fall River Superior Court. Peno was immediately sentenced to life in prison without a chance of parole.

Prosecutors said on March 17th, 2010, Peno severely beat two year old Timothy in the basement of her home, after drinking heavily and smoking crack cocaine. The child was rushed to Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence, but he died the next day.

District Attorney Thomas Quinn says it's difficult to comprehend that a defenseless child was killed by his own mother. He added, "this defendant had no business having custody of the child, and tragically it resulted in his death."
