Rare Tours of Mattapoisett’s Ned’s Point Lighthouse
For nearly 200 years, Mattapoisett's Ned's Point Lighthouse has been standing guard at the shoreline of Mattapoisett Harbor. In addition to being a landmark and a symbol for the small seaside town, the lighthouse is a piece of living history.
In recent years, Ned's Point Lighthouse has seen its share of challenges. It is cared for and owned by the U.S. Coast Guard, but that hasn't stopped it from becoming the victim of some senseless vandalism.
In the past several years it has been the target of gunshots (aimed at the light), the lock has been damaged, and it has been "tagged" with orange spray paint. The last time the lighthouse was damaged, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla officers vowed to have it outfitted with video cameras.

To raise awareness and funds to protect Ned's Point Lighthouse, the keepers are offering a rare chance to climb the stairs and check out the top of Ned's Point Lighthouse.
Tours will happen again on July 6 and 20, then August 3, 17 and 31.

The tours will be conducted by U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla 63, the oldest flotilla in America. The tours will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Donations are welcome, as 100% of the proceeds will go to repairing and maintaining the lighthouse.
Donations can be made by to the Friends of Ned's Point Lighthouse. According to the website, funds will specifically be used to give the structure a fresh coat of paint, addressing some wear and tear, and taking care of some stress fractures with new mortar, epoxy, seal and paint.
