WBSM's revival of "Quarters for Christmas" has built a foundation for more donations going forward.

This past weekend at the Dartmouth Mall, the radio station collected over $600 in spare change in an effort to raise money for Rise Up for Homes to create an emergency overflow homeless shelter when it gets too cold to stay outside.

Peter Muise, President of First Citizens Federal Credit Union says it was a terrific beginning for the cause. "The response from the people in the mall was tremendous. Absolutely tremendous. It always seems to be that if we can create the opportunity, humanity matches," said Muise.

The money will be put into a fund overseen by the Greater New Bedford Interchurch Council.

Catholic Social Services is in the process of building a new shelter in the South End of the city.
