Qualified Immunity Is a Requirement for Civil Society [OPINION]
The assaults on the citizens who serve and protect as police officers have become legalistic and sophisticated. The true victims will be the civilized people.
American society has developed into the greatest society in the history of the world. People literally are breaking into the country every single minute to get an opportunity to experience the opportunities that America has to offer them. The folks breaking into America have determined that life is better living as an illegal alien in America than living as a legal citizen in their country of origin.
The reason those humans want to live in America is that we have property rights, human rights, and law and order. People want to live in America because we have great people who decide to put their lives on the line in our military and in our law enforcement agencies. Without the individuals who provide physical protection through our military and police departments, the country would rapidly plunge into chaos.
Without the Massachusetts police officers who work in New Bedford, Fall River, and the surrounding suburbs, including Cape Cod, we would be in a living hell. Can you imagine living in Boston or New York City now that the police have been undercut by subversive and cowardly elected officials?
The reason our nation offers qualified immunity to police officers, and all kinds of other people willing to take on a public mission, is because it is a logical requirement for a functioning society. Without qualified immunity, nobody would step up to do the job as a police officer. Without police officers, there is no law and order and without law and order, there are no human rights and no property rights.
Qualified immunity isn't a gift to police officers. Qualified immunity is a requirement for a civilized society. If you don't understand the connection, I can't help you.
