A New Bedford record store is welcoming in one of the biggest names in rock music for its upcoming Record Store Day celebration.

Purchase Street Records, located on Pope’s Island, is bringing in Mike D’Antonio, bassist and founding member of the metalcore band Killswitch Engage. He is also a graphic artist who designs all of the band’s album artwork and tour merchandise.

“Mike D,” as he is known, will be at the store on Saturday, April 18, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Free Signing and Animal Shelter Fundraiser

“We will have prints and limited edition shirts by him,” Purchase Street Records owner Roger Chouinard said. “The signing is free, and we are now turning the day into an animal shelter fundraiser for our local animals.”

Chouinard frequently brings in big-name guests, such as Headbangers’ Ball legend Riki Rachtman, and is also hosting Courtney Cox (a.k.a. CC Shreds) of Burning Witches on March 28, ahead of the band’s show that night at The Vault Performing Arts Center. Purchase Street Records has also used artist in-store appearances such as last year’s visit from L.A. Guns guitarist Ace Von Johnson to collect pet supplies in the past.

More Music Highlights for Record Store Day

In addition to the appearance from D’Antonio, there’s another attraction for rock and metal fans on Record Store Day – a special album release from Chouinard’s band All Sinners. The band also recently released its first full-length record We Own the Night.

All Sinners will be opening for Chris Jericho’s KISS cover band Kuarantine on April 4 in Worcester, and opening for Lita Ford in Greenwich, Rhode Island on April 9.

How to Stay Updated on the Event

Stay tuned to the Purchase Street Records Facebook page for updates and for all your Record Store Day information.

“Get ready for an amazing day and see you soon,” Chouinard said.
