Cries for peace came from the streets of Fall River Monday evening as hundreds of parishioners from churches across the Fall River Diocese took part in the 40th annual Procession for Peace.

Marchers carried candles, recited the rosary, and sang Marian hymns in various languages during a half mile walk from St. Anne Church to St. Mary's Cathedral.

Bishop Edgar da Cunha says the call for peace reaches beyond the Fall River Diocese.

"I think coming together and praying for peace is a wonderful sign of our community's concern with our brothers and sisters throughout the world," da Cunha said.

Da Cunha celebrated the Mass for Peace with the marchers at St. Mary's at the conclusion of the procession.

The tradition of the mass and procession began in 1975 in remembrance of Our Lady of Fatima, the Blessed Mother of Fatima, Portugal.
