DARTMOUTH — Dartmouth Police arrest a New Bedford man they say tried to hit them with his car.

Dartmouth Police were set to carry out an arrest on McCabe street at about 3:03 p.m. on Thursday in connection to a narcotics investigation, when they say Erick Roman, 29, tried to hit detectives with his car.

Detectives were soon able to remove Roman from his vehicle. However, the car accidentally rolled into another vehicle that was parked nearby.

Police say due to the crash and the fact that they observed Roman ingest what appeared to be drugs before his arrest, he was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for evaluation.

Roman is being charged with possession with intent to distribute a Class B drug, conspiracy to violate drug laws, failure to stop for police, assault with a dangerous weapon to wit a motor vehicle, and resisting arrest.

Police ultimately were able to arrest the subject of the narcotics investigation, Kelly Oliveira, 30, of 33 McCabe Street, Dartmouth, on multiple drug charges.
