New Bedford Police arrest a robbery suspect in the West End.

Police say a man entered the Hess Gas Station on Kempton Street around mid afternoon on Monday, and told the clerk to open the register.  He then lifted his shirt and displayed what appeared to be a handgun tucked in his belt.

Minutes later, officers spotted a man in the area that matched the description of the robber.  The suspect was positively identified and arrested.

25 year old Nathan Fontes of Walter Street will be arraigned on armed robbery charges in New Bedford District Court.

New Bedford Police continue to investigate a "shots fired" incident Monday night.  Officers responded to Sixth and Russell Streets around 7pm after a "shot spotter" activation.

Police recovered several shell casings, but no one reported being shot or any property damage in that neighborhood.
