
Police: Man Injures Neighbor, Breaks Into Apartment to Avoid Cops
NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man is under arrest after police say he injured a neighbor in a fight and then broke into another apartment in the hopes of evading police.
Police responded at 11:50 p.m. on Tuesday to the New Bedford House Apartments at 485 County Street for a report of an altercation between two men in an apartment.
Police say the suspect, Michael Wade, 58, of 44 Roosevelt Street, Apt. 2, New Bedford, had injured a neighbor in a fight in the neighbor's apartment and then charged at the unarmed neighbor with a knife.
As police searched for Wade, Wade allegedly broke into another neighbor's apartment in an effort to elude police. Wade apparently frightened the tenant in the process.
Police arrested Wade at 12:51 a.m. on Wednesday and charged him with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, home invasion, disturbing the peace while armed, and intimidating a witness.
