Police Investigating Theft of Collection Plate from New Bedford Church

NEW BEDFORD — New Bedford Police are investigating an instance of larceny from a local church.

Police responded to the First Unitarian Church located at 71 Eighth Street at about 7:05 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a theft. According to police, an unidentified person entered the church, stood there for a moment, and then left the building.

The person then returned moments later, and was observed taking the collection basket before leaving the building.

Police gave no description of the suspect. They say the incident is under investigation.
