Police Investigating Report of Shots Fired Along Route 18

NEW BEDFORD — Police are investigating a report of gunshots along Route 18 in New Bedford.

New Bedford Police received an alert from ShotSpotter of possible gunshots in the area of 1510 Route 18 South at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police did not disclose whether evidence of gunfire had been found at the scene. Logs for the police department, however, indicate that a firearm was discharged near a highway and within 500 feet of a building.

A spokesman for the New Bedford Police Department said the matter remains under investigation.
