New Bedford Police are investigating a robbery Thursday morning on the 800 block of Purchase Street.

A 22 year old city man reported the incident to police. He said a man approached him around 9:30am and asked to use his cellphone.

After ending a call, the man asked the victim if he had ever been robbed before. The man then threatened to stab the victim before running off with the phone. No knife was shown.

Det. Captain Steve Vicente says the suspect is described as a while male wearing a white and grey sweatshirt, with blue jeans and black boots. He also had a tattoo of a cross between his eyebrows, and the letter "c" on his left cheek.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Det. Michael Carrier at 508 991-6300, ext. 79512.
