New Bedford narcotics and gang unit detectives, in conjunction with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, obtained a federal arrest warrant for Rafael Reyes, 37, of 12 Roosevelt St. Apt. 1, New Bedford, as the result of his arrest in November 2016.

At that time, he was arrested after being found in possession of 280 grams of cocaine, 180 grams of heroin and ammunition. Reyes subsequently posted $100,000 cash bail and was released March 17, 2017.

On Wednesday, narcotics and gang unit detectives spotted Reyes in a motor vehicle. They stopped the vehicle in the area of 196 Cedar St. to place Reyes under arrest for the federal arrest warrant.

A search of the vehicle revealed about 250 grams of fentanyl and packaging materials.

Reyes and his passenger in the vehicle, Miguel Caraballo, 45, of 12 Roosevelt St. Apt. 1, New Bedford, was charged with trafficking in over 100 grams of fentanyl and conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Caraballo was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in New Bedford District Court.

Reyes was transported for arraignment Thursday in federal court in Boston. Reyes has a prior conviction in Boston Federal Court for dealing cocaine.

The arrests were made at 9:07 p.m. Wednesday
