WAREHAM - Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz has provided further details of the fatal train incident in Wareham Saturday night.

D.A. Cruz says Wareham Police were notified by the conductor of a commercial, scenic train who reported that two pedestrians, a 33 year-old female and 36 year-old male, both of Wareham, had been struck at mile post 52.5 along the Cape Maine Line in Wareham at approximately 7:29 p.m.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that the deceased victims were on the tracks at the time they were struck. The conductor made attempts to stop the train and activated the train’s emergency braking system prior to impact. The victims are not being identified at this time.

The train was a scenic train carrying 355 passengers at the time of impact, and originated in Buzzards Bay. All passengers riding on the train were accounted for and uninjured.

The investigation is ongoing by State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office, Wareham Police and the MBTA.
