We know the saying "When it rains, it pours" all too well. Unfortunately, it was more than just a metaphor for one New Bedford business.

Downtown's popular Play Arcade was hit with severe water damage after the roof collapsed inward Tuesday, dumping gallons of water in the popular Union Street establishment. Just about every room had some flooding aside from the newest addition where the skeeball machines are.

This will force the business to close for at least a week.

Owner Adam Katz was busy meeting with his insurance adjuster and figuring out a plan to clean up the unwanted mess Mother Nature dropped off.

"I've contacted SERVPRO, but I'm on a waiting list right now," Katz said. "The kitchen is extremely flooded, and every room was hit besides the new one."

The natural disaster clean-up company was likely swamped Tuesday, with phones ringing off the hook.

Along with the roof damage, some of Katz's video games got wet.

ABC6 meteorologist Skylar Spinler called for an active morning/early afternoon with a flood watch in effect throughout the day. Heavy rounds of thunderstorms brought flooding and wind damage, resulting in the closure of Route 18 in New Bedford and a tornado in Mattapoisett.

"It was a monsoon," Katz said. "I'm going to have the arcade back up and running as soon as possible, but it's going to be at least a week closed, minimum."

Katz will update the public on Play Arcade's social media once the place has dried out.
