When we look at cheese, sauce and pepperoni, one thing comes to mind: pizza. However, Pizza Artist Eric John sees potential.

His works of art using everyday pizza ingredients have become viral sensations. If you've felt inspired to make a pizza creation of your own, now's your chance. Eric John will be teaching a class this April in Johnston, Rhode Island.

Meet the Artist Behind the Viral Trend

"I feel challenged when I’m making my pizza art, especially the portraits, each of which presents its own set of challenges, most of which pop up during the process," John said.

"It’s also the time when I feel the most focused and determined, and it’s also the most fun I’ve ever had, especially when I’m doing it on my livestream, Awesome Sauce," he said.

How the Pizza Art Class Came Together

The opportunity to create alongside John is thanks to a suggestion from a friend, Lauren Amos. Her RI: The Pizza State Facebook page allows her to bring people together through a mutual love of food.

"Part of that idea is having in-person events where people can gather together," Amos said.

Yes, pizza-making classes do exist, but none quite like this.

"I wanted to take it up a notch and come up with something a bit more unique. That's when I thought of Eric and making pizza art instead," Amos said.

On Thursday, April 16, 2026, a Pizza Art Class will take place at The 78 Pub at This Guy's Pizza in Johnston, RI.

What You’ll Learn in the Pizza Art Class

Those attending the class will have the opportunity to learn from the expert and create an iconic character.

"We will be making Brian the Dog from Family Guy out of pizza," John said. "We decided on that design because the ingredients are pretty standard and there’s a Rhode Island element to it – and Brian rules."

He does rule, but you can, too. Don't let the finished product intimidate you; John will be there guiding you along every step of the way.

"Participants don’t need to know anything about art, or pizza, or pizza art before taking the class," he said. "Some limited experience playing with their food as a child could prove useful, however."

Tickets are $60 per person and must be purchased in advance to secure a spot in class. Ticket sales close Thursday April 9, at midnight. Class starts promptly at 6 p.m.
