Pitbull Attack in Fall River Sends Woman and Child to Hospital

FALL RIVER — A pitbull was shot and killed by police in Fall River Friday night after it attacked a 4-year-old child and a woman, according to authorities.

According to numerous media reports, the Fall River Police Department says that they responded to Bay Street and Mount Hope Avenue at about 8:15 p.m. for a report of a dog attacking a child.

Upon arrival, a responding officer witnessed the dog going after a woman, resulting in the officer shooting the animal and killing it.

While the child was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital, the woman was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Police said they both suffered significant facial injuries, however, their wounds are not life-threatening.
