NEW BEDFORD — A shooting in New Bedford's South End early Monday morning resulted in one victim going to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police spokesperson Lt. Scott Carola confirmed that South End patrol units responded to a ShotSpotter activation near the intersection of Pleasant and Grinnell streets at around 2 a.m. Monday.

Officers arrived to find shell casings along with damage to a nearby house and vehicles, Carola said.

Shortly afterwards, a shooting victim arrived at St. Luke’s Hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury, according to police.

Carola confirmed that multiple shots were fired, but did not disclose how many in order to "protect the integrity of the investigation," he said.

He noted that detectives are "following up on leads and the investigation remains very active" as of Tuesday morning.
