Pedestrian Accident In New Bedford Under Investigation [UPDATE]

A pedestrian accident in the north end of New Bedford today is under investigation by an accident reconstruction team. The accident occurred at Nash Road and Acushnet Avenue around 7:30 a.m.

According to police, the victim suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

:UPDATE : The victim has been identified as 85 year old Angelina Machado of New Bedford who was walking into a bakery. An operator of a garbage truck had waived a driver to make a turn. it was that vehicle that struck the woman.
