Patriots Win Championship Number 5

The New England Patriots mounted the largest comeback in Super Bowl history Sunday night to beat the Atlanta Falons 34-28 in overtime and finally avenge the disgustingly egregious penalties sanction against them during the Deflategate saga. 

The Patriots have now won FIVE Super Bowls in the Tom Brady and Bill Belichick era, making the duo the undisputed greatest champions of all time.

Things looked bleak early on and at one point in the third quarter the Pats looked dead in the water down 25 points, but New England flipped the script over the final quarter plus of action. From the midway point of the third through the final overtime score, the Patriots outscored the Falcons 31-0 en route to the shocking title victory.

The comeback pretty much came down to Brady and company taking over down the stretch. Over the final 20 some odd minutes of the game Brady absolutely dominated what had been a quick and attacking Falcons defense.

At the end of the night, Brady, who won his fourth Super Bowl MVP trophy, completed 43 of 62 passes for 466 yards and two touchdowns.

Down the stretch Brady keyed in on pass catching back James White, who set a league record for Super Bowl catches with 14. White totaled 110 receiving yards, 29 rushing yards, three touchdowns and a two-point conversion on the night. He also carried the ball and a couple of Atlanta defenders into the end zone to lock up the victory.

All around, it was a great comeback and its an amazing feeling to have watched this team do what it just did. Let's all soak it in for now. More to come later.
