The John A. Parker Elementary School in New Bedford officially opened it's new playground, called the Lion's Den.

Along with the jungle gym, the school also built six raised community garden beds where students will grow their own vegetables.

Mayor Jon Mitchel spoke about the progress of the school and the importance of recess.

The $50,000 playground project is a part of the school's initiative to promote health and physical fitness.

The site used was previously open asphalt behind Parker School.
