An orphaned baby deer has been rescued.

Massachusetts Environmental Police say one of their officers was travelling to a training seminar in New Bedford Thursday morning.

During his trip he noticed a young fawn that was attempting to nurse from its deceased mother.

The mother had died due to fatal injuries sustained as a result of a car accident.

Environmental Police say personnel from the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries & Wildlife helped their officers capture the week-old fawn, which was then transported to a wildlife rehabilitation clinic.

A second fawn was also recovered by MassWildlife personnel who remained on scene.

If you encounter any young wildlife, the Division of Fisheries & Wildlife asks that you follow this advice.
