One Less Clown in Fall River’s Circus [OPINION]
Hurry, hurry! Get your tickets now for the greatest show on Earth!
The circus that is Fall River politics continues. But unlike with past performances, this big top adventure will have to make do without one of its star clowns. Former Mayor Will Flanagan has announced he will have nothing to do with all of this tomfoolery of a recall election. Been there, done that.
The pistol-packing Flanagan was the first ever Massachusetts mayor to be recalled in 2014 and would love nothing more than to peer out once again over the "We'll Try" city through those two dozen windows that mysteriously appeared when he last roamed the sixth floor at Government Center.
Rather than just wait until the fall to decide the fate of the federally indicted kid mayor Jasiel Correia, it was the infinite wisdom of "The Riv" to blow a wad of cash on a special recall election and make the city even more of a spectacle than it normally is.
You might be wondering why Flanagan and other "A" list players have so far not jumped into the fray? Let me spell it out for you: S-A-M S-U-T-T-E-R. Sutter won the last recall election only to be tossed to the lions nine months later.
Too many candidates on the ballot could result in the unthinkable for many: Correia winning. I suspect that the heavy hitters like Flanagan and perhaps even Sutter are waiting until the general election in the fall to ride in on their white horses to save the day.
I can't wait.
