NEW BEDFORD — A man has been injured after being assaulted by a suspect wielding a baseball bat in New Bedford on New Year's Eve.

New Bedford Police spokesman Lt. Scott Carola said the alleged attack took place at around midnight on Jan. 1 in the city's West End.

According to Carola, west end police units responded to a reported assault at 1332 Pleasant St.

They arrived to find the male victim had been hit in the head with a baseball bat by another man.

Carola did not identify the victim or the suspect, and did not say if the suspect has been arrested in connection to the alleged assault.

However, no assault and battery-related arrests are listed in police logs that day.

The man who was hit sustained an injury Carola described as "non life-threatening."

No further details on the attack or the suspect were disclosed.
