New Bedford Fire Chief Michael Gomes tells WBSM News the so-called "room and contents" fire was reported at 5:20 a.m. at a three-story tenement home at 207 Rivet Street.
Chief Gomes says the fire, which was contained to a room on the second floor, was quickly extinguished, and the scene was cleared by 7 a.m..
All eight residents were evacuated from the home. One resident suffered minor burns and was transported to St. Luke's Hospital for treatment.
Chief Gomes says the first floor sustained water damage while the third floor was damaged by smoke.
