NEW BEDFORD — A man has been taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries after he was involved in a two-car crash that ended with one car driving into a New Bedford house.

After around 2:30 p.m. on Monday afternoon, emergency crews responded to the corner of Elm and Rounds Streets for the crash.

New Bedford District Fire Chief Steven Medeiros said that one driver sustained a laceration to the forehead and was taken to the hospital by emergency medical services.

The man sustained the injury when his car struck the lower level of a neighborhood home, according to Medeiros.

He said the other driver was not injured, and there were no passengers involved in the crash.

A preliminary investigation found that one of the cars may have gone through a stop sign, causing the crash, although the incident remains under investigation.

A man claiming to be the driver of the car that struck the house told WBSM's Tim Weisberg that the other driver flew through a stop sign, pushing his vehicle into the building.

Medeiros confirmed that none of the residents of the house were in the room the car hit at the time.

The building inspector was called to examine the damage to the home.
