NEW BEDFORD — A New Bedford man was killed in a shooting that took place this afternoon in the city's North End.

New Bedford police are actively investigating the homicide along with state police detectives and homicide unit prosecutors.

Naurik Michel-Brown, 23, of New Bedford was killed in the incident, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

Police responded to reports of a shooting near the intersection of Ashley Boulevard and Belleville Road at around 2:45 p.m. Monday.

First responders found a male victim, later identified as Michel-Brown, suffering from serious injuries at the scene.

He was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The investigation is ongoing.
