The group behind Boston's bid for the 2024 Olympics is reaching beyond the city for input on their proposal.

Boston 2024 announced Wednesday that it would hold a series 20 community meetings in the coming months around Massachusetts _ venturing as far west as Springfield.

The organization's chief executive, Richard Davey, said the purpose of the meetings is to give residents statewide a chance to share ideas and concerns.

The International Olympic Committee is expected to name a host for the 2024 games in 2017. If Boston wins out, Olympic venues could be located in several other parts of the state.

The first meeting will be held next week in Boston's Roxbury neighborhood, followed by sessions in Lowell, Cambridge, the South Coast, Springfield and Malden.
