On Wednesday Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey sent an enforcement notice sent to gun sellers and manufacturers that clarifies what constitutes a "copy" or "duplicate" weapon under the state's assault weapons ban, including copies of the Colt AR-15 and the Kalashnikov AK-47.

That measure is being met with opposition from State Rep. Shaunna O'Connell of Taunton who told WBSM's Barry Richard that Healey overstepped her authority on what should be the purview of the state legislature.

"She's supposed to enforce the laws as written, and she's expanding it, she's reinterpreting it, and this is not the proper way to do it," said O'Connell "and if she doesn't agree with it and she wants it changed she needs to do it legislatively."

In addition to overstepping her authority, O'Connell says Healey's action punishes law abiding gun owners.

"This doesn't protect law abiding citizens that are gun owners, and want to be responsible gun owners," said O'Connell "it makes them into criminals and it actually empowers those with malicious intention who really don't follow the law to begin with."

Gun owners and activists are expected to rally outside the State House to protest the ban.
