NEW BEDFORD - A convenience store in New Bedford's north end is scheduled to permanently close it's doors by the end of the month, according to an employee.

The 7-Eleven convenience store at 1499 Acushnet Avenue in New Bedford will permanently close on November 27, 2017. An employee at the store told WBSM News the reason for the closure is that "people keep on stealing."

According to WBSM archives, the 7-Eleven location on Acushnet Avenue has been robbed at least 11 times within the past four years. A public information request sent to the New Bedford Police Department earlier Tuesday morning is almost certain to reveal more reported robberies and other incidents that required police response during the past five years.

As of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, there were no visible signs on the exterior of the Acushnet Avenue franchise indicating the store would be closing at the end of the month.

A request for comment from 7-Eleven's corporate headquarters in Dallas, Texas, has not been returned.
