Nor’Easter Raising Havoc On The Southcoast
Heavy rain and strong, gusty winds are hammering Greater New Bedford and the Southcoast, causing major headaches for public safety personnel. The most serious incident appears to be an overturned tractor-trailer (above) on the Braga Bridge in Fall River. There have also been numerous reports of trees down and localized flooding.
Witnesses say a tree came down on Route 140 Northbound near exit 7, forcing Police to detour traffic off the road. We also received a report of a portion of a roof coming off at Workout World in New Bedford.
Earlier, passersby discovered a car in the water at West Beach, near Hazelwood Park. WBSM's Tim Weisberg says the car was pulled from the water this afternoon. No one was inside. Further details are not available.
There was also a report of a transformer on fire in Westport, and high winds taking down trees and signs. Power outages have also been reported in Dartmouth and other surrounding towns.
