New Bedford Harbor Hotel Sold to Lafrance Hospitality
The New Bedford Harbor Hotel has officially been sold, marking a new chapter for one of the city’s most recognizable downtown properties.
New Bedford Harbor Hotel Lands New Owner With Local Ties
Lafrance Hospitality has acquired the 70 room New Bedford Harbor Hotel, a five story boutique hotel located in New Bedford's historic downtown district. The company already has a strong presence in the city and across the SouthCoast, operating the Fairfield by Marriott New Bedford, Merrill’s on the Waterfront, White's of Westport, and Rosebrook in Wareham.
The acquisition reflects Lafrance Hospitality’s continued growth across New England and its commitment to expanding its footprint on the SouthCoast.
What Changes Are Planned
The hotel will remain open during the transition, and guests can expect upgrades in the near future. Lafrance Hospitality plans to enhance the hotel by improving guest comfort, modernizing amenities, and maintaining the character that has made the hotel a popular destination.
The hotel features 222 Union Restaurant and Bar, a 3,300 square foot dining space open to both guests and the public, along with more than 5,000 square feet of event space.
What This Means For New Bedford
Company leadership sees the purchase as an opportunity to invest further in the city’s future.
“New Bedford is a city rich in history and energy, and this property presents a wonderful opportunity for us to contribute to its continued growth while offering guests a high quality, memorable stay,” said Tim Burkhardt, president of hotels for Lafrance Hospitality.
The Fun 107 and WBSM studios were once located inside the hotel. Both radio stations moved to Fairhaven in the early 90's.
