"Catch the Tradition," a series of promotional videos touting the New Bedford Fishing Heritage Center and the fishing industry, are now finished and ready to share with the public.

Overseeing the project was Marketing Specialist Matt Moyer Bell, who joined Townsquare Sunday this week to discuss the videos.

"The Fishing Heritage Center is not just a museum, it's a community resource that documents an entire culture and community that is the backbone of New Bedford," Bell said. "It's a major part of the economy and the people who live here."

Bell worked with Big Ocean Media in New Bedford to capture video of fishermen and those working in related industries.

"Those are tough jobs. What I was trying to show in these videos is that history is alive today in New Bedford," he said.

Also at the FHC, a new mini-exhibit will be unveiled on February 20 called "Hauling Back: A Generational Fishing Family Project."

"Fishing families are a big part of our community," Bell said. "We've been collecting and sharing stories of multi-generational fishing families and businesses all along the Southcoast. As part of the exhibit, the Center will highlight 10 families that have made important contributions to the industry."

The first exhibit on Feb. 20 will highlight the Pasquill family and Turk's Seafood, and will remain on display through the month of March.

Looking for something to do with the kids during school vacation week? How about taking part in "Lobster Days" February 20-21 at the Fishing Heritage Center, 38 Bethel Street in the Historic District.

"It's a lot of fun. You can meet a local lobsterman, join in science demonstrations, plus art activities, story time and a lot more," Bell said.

The program runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and is free.
